Lawn care and landscaping services
Lawn care is often sold as a seasonal or yearly program. Knowing what you're paying for, and when it renews, keeps the cost reasonable.
What to know
- Program contents
- Ask how many visits, what each includes, and which treatments are applied.
- Pesticide licensing
- Companies applying pesticides or herbicides generally need a state applicator license.
- Auto-renewal
- Many programs renew automatically each year. Note the renewal date and cancellation terms.
- Per visit vs season
- Compare a season price with the per-visit cost, and whether skipped visits are refunded.
Questions to ask the contractor
- What does each visit include, and what costs extra?
- Is the program auto-renewing, and how do I cancel?
- Are you licensed to apply these treatments in our state?
Where to check
- Your state agriculture department
- Pesticide applicator license lookups in many states.
